Reconfiguring VC controls

I just got Super Mario World and Donkey Kong Country for my wife. We have a gamecube controller to play what few vc games we have. However, the 'jump' button in both of these games is difficult to use. She's complained that she can barely play the game because you have to be able to jump while running or carrying something, but that you can't do it with one thumb because the jump button is too far away from the other necessary buttons. Is it possible to reconfigure the controls for the gamecube control while playing VC games? Reconfiguring VC controls
Unfortunately no, not that I know of, unless the game itself has an option to change the controls. I ended up buying a classic controller because most (if not all) super nintendo games are really difficult to playwith the GC controller. Kind of a scam by the big N (inadvertent or not). Sucks >.
